Growth, efficiency, temperament, and carcass characteristics 0.05) effects on BW, growth, feed efficiency, or temperament traits. The only significant effect of CAST or CAPN3 on carcass characteristics was a small increase in rib fat with increasing number of favorable CAST alleles (P = 0.042) in the WA herd. There were no significant interactions (all P > 0.05) between the markers, or between the markers and sex or HGP treatment apart from CAST × HGP for area of the M. longissimus lumborum (P = 0.024) in the NSW experiment. Favorable CAST or CAPN3 alleles appear unlikely to have detrimental effects on growth, efficiency, temperament, or carcass characteristics of Brahman cattle; however, some effects evident for CAPN1 status indicate the need for further production studies on effects of these markers. Overall, the findings of the present study indicate that calpain-system gene markers are suitable for use in marker-assisted selection to improve meat tenderness in Brahman cattle without negative effects on other production and carcass characteristics.]]> Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:51:46 EST ]]> Genetic parameters for subjectively scored traits in yearling and adult fine wool Merinos Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:51:45 EST ]]> REM: A Collaborative Framework for Building Indigenous Cultural Competence Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:51:44 EST ]]> Nutritional and flock management options to reduce methane output and methane per unit product from sheep enterprises Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:51:43 EST ]]> Temperament of Young Brahman Cattle Assessed During Backgrounding Persists and is Related to Performance Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:51:42 EST ]]> Repeatability of rumen volatile fatty acid concentrations in sheep under field conditions Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:51:42 EST ]]> Maternal nutrition of beef cattle at pasture mediates long-term consequences for offspring primarily through effects on growth early in life Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:51:41 EST ]]> Production and processing studies on calpain-system gene markers for tenderness in Brahman cattle: 2. Objective meat quality 0.05) of interactions between the gene markers, or between the hormonal growth promotant and gene markers for any meat quality traits. This study provides further evidence that selection based on the CAST or CAPN3 gene markers improves meat tenderness in Brahman cattle, with little if any detrimental effects on other meat quality traits. The Brahman cattle had greater individual variation in, and greater correlations within and between, repeated assessments of FS and CS than did the Angus cattle. Correlations for repeated measures of FS were greater than for repeated assessments of CS, and the strength of correlations for both declined over time. Average FS or CS for each experiment and location (NSW or WA × backgrounding or finishing) were more highly correlated than individual measurements, indicating that the average values were a more reliable assessment of cattle temperament than any single measure. In Brahman cattle, increased average FS and CS were associated with significant (P < 0.05) reductions in backgrounding and feedlot growth rates, feed intake and time spent eating, carcass weight, and objective measures of meat quality. In Angus cattle, the associations between temperament and growth rates, feed intake, and carcass traits were weaker than in Brahmans, although the strength of relationships with meat quality were similar.]]> Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:23:40 EST ]]> Four week repeatability of daily and one hour methane production of mature merino wethers fed 'ad libitum' Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:23:39 EST ]]> Genetic and environmental variation in methane emissions of sheep at pasture Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:16:42 EST ]]> Estimates of repeatability and heritability of methane production in sheep using portable accumulation chambers Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:16:41 EST ]]> Human health consequences of reducing emissions of climate altering pollutants Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:16:41 EST ]]> Molecular value predictions: Associations with beef quality, carcass, production, behavior and efficiency phenotypes in Brahman cattle Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:16:40 EST ]]> Sire and liveweight affect feed intake and methane emissions of sheep confined in respiration chambers Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:16:39 EST ]]> Comparison of repeated measurements of methane production in sheep over 5 years and a range of measurement protocols Wed 12 Oct 2016 16:09:41 EST ]]> Impact of hydropower dam development on agriculturally based livelihoods of resettled communities: a case study of Duong Hoa Commune in central Vietnam Wed 12 Oct 2016 15:06:40 EST ]]> Evaluation of sire by environment interactions for growth rate and backfat depth using reaction norm models in pigs Wed 12 Oct 2016 14:38:41 EST ]]> A comparison of absolute performance of different correlative and mechanistic species distribution models in an independent area Wed 12 Oct 2016 13:14:39 EST ]]> Tourism and wetland conservation: application of travel cost and willingness to pay an entry fee at Ghodaghodi Lake Complex, Nepal Wed 12 Oct 2016 12:53:40 EST ]]> Breeding objectives for sheep should be customised depending on variation in pasture growth across years Wed 12 Oct 2016 12:25:40 EST ]]> Effects of climate change on economic feasibility of future date palm production: An integrated assessment in Iran 10,000, while profitable (with NPV between 4200 and 10,000) and moderately profitable (with NPV between 0 and 4200) areas would cover only 500 and 50 km², respectively, in future. Over a 140-y period, aggregate native species richness weakly decreased, but richness declines were significant only for the genus Bombus. Of 187 native species analyzed individually, only three declined steeply, all of these in the genus Bombus. However, there were large shifts in community composition, as indicated by 56% of species showing significant changes in relative abundance over time. Traits associated with a declining relative abundance include small dietary and phenological breadth and large body size. In addition, species with lower latitudinal range boundaries are increasing in relative abundance, a finding that may represent a response to climate change. We show that despite marked increases in human population density and large changes in anthropogenic land use, aggregate native species richness declines were modest outside of the genus Bombus. At the same time, we find that certain ecological traits are associated with declines in relative abundance. These results should help target conservation efforts focused on maintaining native bee abundance and diversity and therefore the important ecosystems services that they provide.]]> Tue 11 Oct 2016 11:06:40 EST ]]> Planning for metapopulation persistence using a multiple-component, cross-scale model of connectivity Tue 11 Oct 2016 10:52:39 EST ]]> Wild Pollinators Enhance Fruit Set of Crops Regardless of Honey Bee Abundance Tue 11 Oct 2016 10:38:40 EST ]]> Native bees buffer the negative impact of climate warming on honey bee pollination of watermelon crops Tue 11 Oct 2016 10:38:39 EST ]]> The Allometry of Bee Proboscis Length and Its Uses in Ecology Tue 11 Oct 2016 10:31:40 EST ]]> Linking species functional roles to their network roles Tue 11 Oct 2016 10:17:39 EST ]]> Predicting bee community responses to land-use changes: Effects of geographic and taxonomic biases Tue 11 Oct 2016 09:56:41 EST ]]> How to Outperform Emerging Market Indexes Using Passive Indexation Tue 04 Oct 2016 17:10:40 EST ]]> Direct instruction fit for purpose: applying a metalinguistic toolkit to enhance creative writing in the early secondary years Tue 04 Oct 2016 15:25:41 EST ]]> Understanding Current Situations: Facilitating Inclusive Education Implementation Tue 04 Oct 2016 15:11:40 EST ]]> Pre-Service Teacher Training on Game-Enhanced Mathematics Teaching and Learning Tue 04 Oct 2016 13:05:39 EST ]]> Opinion: grandparents matter, and should be treated like they do Tue 04 Oct 2016 12:58:41 EST ]]> Happiness Vs Contentment?
